Tuesday, May 8

I am sorry I am not blogging as much as I intended to. Time seems to just be flying by! Things are going really well. Sasha actually started riding a bike yesterday with Chris- this was so impressive to me, as when we brought him home he could not pedal a tricycle or big wheel! It is to me an example of how fast he is catching up. He still is mistaken in size for a 3 year old, but he certainly does not act or talk like one. He is speaking in sentences now, and we can have regular conversations about things. He talks pretty much nonstop- even if he is by himself he is talking!
One thing that we have really discovered is he has such a great sense of humor. He thinks so many things are funny, and can be so funny and witty himself. He is so fun to spend time with, and he also has so much excitement for everything. Some times too much excitement. He certainly wears me out during the day, but I wouldn't trade that time for anything.
One thing he really doesn't enjoy, and we are trying to develop is coloring, drawing, etc... He can currently do nothing beyond scribbling, and I have to force him to sit down and try to draw for a few minutes. Hopefully that will develop in time, or when he is in preschool with other children.
Well, that is all I can think of right now. He also loves going to Sunday School and asks about heaven and what we will do there. He knows Jesus is there and we are going to go there someday. It's so cool to hear him talk about it! That's the most important thing he can know about!

Thanks for updating your blog. You are right, Sasha is catching up quickly. I can't believe he can already ride his bike. That is so cool. Don't sweat the coloring. It will all come in due time. He is too busy right now exploring his awesome new mommy and daddy and his new world. I bet when things slow down a bit, he'll have time to color you a gorgeous picture. We can't wait to see you guys again soon. Mark still needs to meet your handsome little guy!!!

Happy First Mother's Day Kim!! Doesn't it feel good to hear that.

Much love,
Missy

These are great stories and awesome pictures. Welcome to the world of a preschooler where life is one big adventure that doesn't stop until bedtime! Take care, James and Jaime.

I still love keeping up with your blog! Keep posting stuff. I keep missing y'all at church so I still haven't met the little guy. He looks like he's settled in very well. Speaking as a kindergarten teacher, it isn't unusual for little boys to be less than fond of coloring. I found some cool markers that might be more exciting for him. They are crayola window markers and they write on any kind of glass. They wipe off with a little windex. I saw some at Walmart just the other day. Anyway, he'll develop all that fine motor stuff in his own time. He's just a typical little boy. Keep having fun!

Chris and Tim,
Thanks for following along. Your encouragement and prayers are much appreciated. We had a big to do with Igor wanting to have women stay over. Since we are sharing an apartment we didn't feel it was appropriate, and since we got a nicer apartment based on sharing we are not willing to get him his own apartment now. He has done a great job for us so far, I know it's difficult with 3 orphanages and 2 cities.

I thought about taking the military approach of "don't ask, don't tell," but that wouldn't honor God. God has worked everything out so well for us so far, and I know God doesn't need a hand, but I'm sure he will appreciate someone standing up for him in this Ukrainian culture.
